Luckily, Chinoiserie was fashionable last year and it was not difficult to find such pieces in the departmental stores. Besides, the outfits could be worn for the Lunar New Year which was but a week away from the wedding. For Chinoiserie outfits, there is always Yue Hwa at People’s Park which carries a whole range from cheongsums to samfoos. They also have material for sale; beautiful silks and satins with dragons, phoenix, bamboo and flower motifs. Better yet, the designer at A Love Affair Wedding Concepts can create a look especially for you. Using only the best material and the utmost care in selecting the beads and crystals to complement your outfits, they give you the best that you deserve, as I was so fortunate to enjoy.

Having a theme wedding does not mean you have to spend a lot of money renting the location that fits your theme, buying the necessary props and renting or buying other fixtures and accessories. Instead of having a big main theme, smaller themes which complement the main one can make your wedding planning easier and more achievable. For instance, in the case of outfits, coordinated designs and execution make for an astute congruent front. Getting your guests to comply is not easy but usually close friends and relatives are more than willing to have the question of what-to-wear answered for them. Decide what you want to wear for your wedding and the designer can help make it a reality. Just remember to have fun and not take things too seriously, and it would really help to have a Wedding Co-ordinator.

At another friend’s wedding, she had an Ethnic theme and guests came in cheongsums, saris, kebayas and outfits indicative of their own ethnic origin. The bride and groom were dressed as a sheikh and his nubian princess. The effect was stunning and some tourists even posed for pictures with the wedding party as they thought it was some special Ethnic Day come-in-your-native-costume affair.

Next month, I will talk more on the music we chose for our Shanghai Night theme.
