Well daddy the time has come to be
For another man to be there for me
You've served your time your sentance was long
I'm now anothers financal burden be strong
Now all kidding aside I truley love you
Our days of fighting will soon be through
I love you daddy for putting me where I belong
And my respect for you has grown ever strong
I've learned from you what a good man can do
My sweet husband to be is actually a lot like you

You could alter the words a bit.

Good luck,

Hi again Amy,
Here is a poem I found on that site I was telling you about. You may want to use it ultering the words a bit.

In Honor of my Dad-On my Wedding Day Home
Submit A Poem
Submitted by Donna Roberts

Oh, my Papa, can you see,
Through space and the Milky Way?
Just how happy my heart feels?
For it's my Wedding Day!

Did you ever dream so big?
And know this day would come?
And that I’d stand with one I love
Reflected in the Son?

Oh, my Papa, I need a hug
Even tho’ you’re not here;
To let me know you love me still
And hold me and calm my fears.

I miss your laughter to this day
I miss your hugging Mom.
It’s been so long since you left this earth
And went to your heavenly Home.

I just wanted to let you know
That I’ve found someone so real!
He loves me, Papa, like I never dreamed
That any man, for me, could feel.

Could you send a little star my way?
And let me know you’re close?
And an angel here and there?
Don’t need a big heavenly host.

I love you Papa; I wish you could see
How happy my heart is today.
Thanks for loving me and helping me
To be ready for my wedding day.

Hello Amy,
I love your idea of releasing the butterflies. That is going to be beautiful. Maybe you could have someone read your poem during that. Or if you feel strong enough to do it yourself, you could read it then.

As for the poem, I could try to help you but I really don't know how much help I could be as if you want to write something specific about your Dad then you will have to compose it. If I were you I would put all my thoughts down on paper first, then sort thru them and start writing.

Our first dance song was a beautiful song......it was called "Dance with my Father" by Luther Vandross. Another idea might be "Butterfly Kisses" Raybon Brothers. Or there is "Daddy's Little Girl" by Kippi Bannon. There are so many beautiful songs you could use.

Another website you might want to try for suggestions as I used it a lot when I was planning and the people there were wonderful. You can also start a new thread there asking for help. It was. www.ultimatewedding.com; I got so much useful information from there.

Please let me know on the poem and I can see how I can help you with that. I am hoping your day will be as beautiful as ours was.

Take care and happy planning.

Susann
:-)

Hello Amy,
I am so sorry to hear that your Father suffered so very much. Sometimes life is not fair and we wonder why good people are put thru so much pain and suffering. I am sure you have many treasured special memories of him and I think it is a wonderful idea that you want to remember him during your Special Day.
As you, I wanted so much for my parents to be there, but I could not change the fact that God had other plans for them.

I just want to share with you what I did to make them part of our special day. Both of my parents are deceased as well as my husbands father. So we honoured all three of them.

1. My bouquet was beautiful, very bright with yellow roses, fuscia orchids and another type of flower. In the centre of it I had two white roses in memory of my parents.

2. In the church, we had three angel votive candles buring in memory of all three of them.

3. In our program I wrote the following:

In Honour......
We would like to give a special thanx to our parents, Ken, Helen and Henry who are here in spirit.
Through the years their comfort and wisdom has helped shaped our lives.
They are here today looking over us to ensure a wonderful ceremony and a long and enduring life together.
The two white roses in my bouquet are in memory of my Mom and Dad........ Gone but not forgotten.

4. When my father was really ill and in the hospital, I was helping him pack his things up to go home. He knew this would be the last trip home and he would die there, he handed me a blue handkerchief and told me that I could carry it on the day I got married. Of which I did and I had to use it at the alter.

5. Then after the ceremony we moved the 3 angel votive candles to the reception area. There was a special table - Our Memory Table set up...... we had the 3 angel votives lit on it along with 3 yellow roses and a photo of my husbands father and a photo of my parents Wedding. Then I typed up the following poem and framed it and it was placed on the table.
The poem was as follows.....
IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR PARENTS
Then I listed all three names here

Our wedding day is finally here
We only wish for you to be near
We know you are looking down on us, watching from above
Yet, how we wish you were here today showing your support and love

We are all grown up now, but still wish you were here by our side
However, we cannot chane the past
All that's left now are sweet memories
Memories and thought that in our hearts will always last.

We are moving forward, but we can't help looking back
We won't take our lives for granted, these moments go by fast
The times we have today eventually become our memories of the past
So we'll live and enjoy it, be the best people we can be
Until we meet again in heaven.

Wonderful Memories Woven in Gold
These are the Memories we Tenderly Hold
Deep i our Hearts your Memory is Kept
To Love, To Cherish and To Never Forget.

The above poem was typed and centered on really nice paper and framed. Upon us entering the dinner as our dinner we walked over to the table and lit the candles and had a moment of silence. It was very touching. We have beautiful photos of this.

I think you should honour your Dad in a special way too. I had did a lot of searching on how to do it.... and I am glad I did it the way I did. Try not to dwell on too much of the negatives to his passing. As this creates a lot of pain and bad memories. Try to make his memory a positive thing rememering good times and happy times.

As for the poem, you might want to write something specific to your relationship with him. You may want to put a picture of him and you on a memory table. So many people commented on our Memory Table. It was very touching and beautiful.

I do hope you are able to come up with something special to honor him. It sounds like you were very close to him and miss him dearly. As I continue to still miss my parents. They passed away 13 years this Fall. I continue to miss them each day.

Amy, good luck and if you want to chat anymore about this, please feel free to write, I would be willing to try and help you out. Maybe I could try to help you with a poem if you give me a bit of background to work with.

Take care of yourself. And I hope your planning of your wedding is going well.

Have a wonderful day.

Susann.
P.S. Where are you located?
