Help,
We need a sure fire way of making sure we aren't surprised with any uninvited guests. How can the response card be worded, so everyone doesn't assume they can bring their children along?
(I sound like an old scrooge!)
The majority of our guests have children, and that would add so many extras to our list.

Generally, if the invitation is addressed only to the people invited, then those people should understand that the children are not included. However, a lot of people can't imagine that their little darlings would not be included, so they will write in their names on the response card, or worse, just show up with them.
For our wedding, we got the word out through our immediate families. And also, just in general discussion with people about the wedding we would say that we weren't inviting children. Happily - no unexpected surprises.
In the event people do respond, adding their children to the cards, you have to call them, and kindly inform them that due to site limitations, budget concerns, or , you cannot accommodate their children. It's hard, but remember, they shouldn't have put you in the position in the first place.

We put "Babysitting services will be provided for the Adults Only reception." in the lower left corner of the reception card.
We were prepared to have a couple of high school girls from the church in a room at the hotel but No one took us up on it.

I have seen it in Invitation catalogs where it says Adult Reception to follow at Such and such place.
