I'm off to my first ballroom dance competition, so I won't be around for the next couple of days. This should be very interesting, and I'm sure I'll have some good stories when I come back. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't forget any steps!

Break a leg, isn't that what a person is supposed to say. Anyway you know what I mean. :-)

Hi all - just got home. Thanks for all the good wishes. I wish I'd checked in before the comp, the buttcream suggestion was a good one! Good or evil usages, who cares? As long as it benefits me, because it's MY day and I can do what I want. But I digress. Did pretty well for the first time. Didn't win anything, but managed to at least make 4th on the tango and the waltz. Which is good, since the tango is my particular favorite, and the waltz has been so difficult to learn to do well. The other dance we competed in was the foxtrot, and we thought we had that down. Think again! :-)Everything else was the dreaded "runner up". It was tons of fun, though, and goes by really quickly. You dance in heats, and the music is played for about 2 minutes. And there are so many people competing! I had no idea how many people are into this! I head back tomorrow to participate in the "team match" where the different studios compete against each other. I'm doing some sort of hip hop thing (god help me)that I haven't learned yet. Since it's just being choreographed as I type. Oh dear. It's a group thing, and just for fun, so it's not really any pressure at all. Oh - and can I tell you - getting ready for this thing was like getting ready for the wedding! Had to have my hair done, makeup, dress in a dress you would like never wear again (nor would you want to...) So, it was a lot of fun. I've got a lot of work to do before the next one in June!

Congrats! Fourth ain't bad! I'm very happy to see you had fun. That's the important part, right? Well, beating the crap out of the competition is great too. But we're ladies. We're supposed to fair. Yah Right! :-)

Suz, I didn't know you were into ballroom dance! Stanton and I might enjoy it, but my former spouse got into it after he and I split, and this town (Minneapolis) is so small it would be really uncomfortable to be running into him night after night at dances! LOL Have you ever tried flamenco? I don't know why, but I've had this longing to try it for the last several months. Maybe it's that Sargent painting "el Jaleo," or maybe it's the music, or the clothes... OK, so I gotta know - just how stiffly was your hair sprayed, and did you actually manage to dance with that big frozen smile on your face the whole time like the dancers on TV?
