I'm wondering what everyone is using for pew markers. I'd like to make them and I'm looking for ideas. Please advise!

Lin: Are you talking pew decorations, like bows or swags? I just helped a friend make 20 pew bows from wired organza ribbon and tulle. We made 6 loop bows from the wired ribbon and let the ends hang about 18". Then we took the tulle (bought on a roll) and tied a bow around the 6 loops to hold them in place. We fluffed the tulled bows and let the ends hang a bit longer than the hanging ribbon ends. We added a sprig of greenery inside the center of the bow and voila! They were easy to make and looked very professional.

My mom is making pew bows for me too. They look great. She has already made two huge white ribbon bows for the pillars on the outside of the church. She does alot of crafts so I am lucky. But I did find alot of craft ideas for pew bows on the web that gives detail instructions. If you are interested in the website let me know.

Anyone have ideas OTHER than bows for the pews? I'll have a floral arch at the altar but I'd like to decorate the aisle as well. My ceremony is outside with white metal folding chairs as my "pews." I'm looking for a more natural, hand-made, or country decoration. It's hard to hang anything off these folding chairs, so decorations can't be very heavy...

Bvanderwill, What about the gutter idea? I think somebody on this board is using the idea that was in Martha Stewart Weddings a few issues back. Turn the gutters over, run them the length of your aisle, use soaked floral foam and lots of greenery, with flowers tucked in here and there. This encourages the guests to enter from the outside aisle, preserving the grass of the aisle. I think it would help define and tie together the ceremony space pretty well.

Amy C: I LOVED that idea, but it would cost me a small fortune to fill that length of gutter with fresh flowers and greens! You got me thinking about decorations on the grass, instead of the chairs, however. I have a TON of extra mason jars. Do you think I could put like 3 daisies per jar and line those down the aisle? Would they even show up on the grass? I could tie raffia around the lips of the jars (like my centerpieces, but not as full). What do you think?

Are you using an aisle runner or leaving the ground bare??? Not sure that the mason jars with daisies would be eye-catching enough next to the ground to get the effect you may be looking for....good idea though, and it just may work. They may tip over easily as well???? You'd probably have to do a "test" with them first. What about the "floral runner" idea where you could just "behead" a bunch of daisies and toss them down to act as a traditional aisle runner would. Another possibility may be to place a single daisy on each of the guests' seats that they could take as a momento. It may add a little more color to the all-white chairs. Even lining the aisle with two long (puffy) pieces of tulle and somehow intertwining the daisies among the tulle might add an extra touch. Let us know what you decide!!
