Does anyone know what the time frame is to register for the wedding gifts? Our wedding is in July. Is it too soon to register now? Or is it a good idea to go ahead and then we will have one more thing to mark off our list. thanks!!

I think so. Many who know you are getting married may already be shopping for a gift for the two of you. If you register now, they will have a direct to look. My wedding is in October and plan on registering sometime within the next few months. Now, I may be considered too early, but people have been asking us what we want since last October.

I would go ahead and register. We registered in October for our May wedding. We check it about once a month to make sure things haven't been discontinued, etc. We have also added things on the way, so don't feel like you have to get it done all in one night.

I second Jennifer. Go ahead and get it done. Be careful though when registering for your china that you don't choose a pattern that is being discontinued. This happened to a friend of mine. They discontinued it right after she registered and never told her! She found out from an aunt who tried to buy some for her. So, now I'm always scouring sales to see if I can find pieces of it for her.

I've read to do it asap for people who want to buy you wedding shower gifts, etc. I have not done it for my May 27th wedding yet ..so I'm not one to talk. I honostly never heard of anyone buying a wedding gift months before the wedding. But it does make sense if you'll be having a shower soon. It's also nice to get it out of the way. My work-aholic fiance hasn't been around long enough to drag to a store ...so I hope it's a fairly simple process when I finally get him there.

If you start now you'll have time to do bits at a time. It really can be overwhelming and helps if you can focus on particular items each time you go: kitchen, formal dinnerware & linnens, bathroom, garden, etc.

Joe and I registered on Thanksgiving weekend, and we're getting married April 8. This was good because my matron of honor was hosting a shower for me in December, and she was able to include our registry information in the invitations. There was also a huge surprise shower for me in January, and a LOT of people were able to shop from the registry. We did the bulk of our Sears and Crate & Barrel registry in two days, and then a big trip to Kitchen Etc. the following weekend. We did go back and check on discontinued items with the change of season, and we also added other items to the basic registry. (I once sent Joe to Sears add a second set of yellow towels to our registry, and I've made trips to Crate and Barrel and Kitchen Etc. to add/delete things.) It was definitely timely for us to do it about 4 1/2 months in advance.

Tip on registering though....register together, not with your friends and mom...you and him are the ones going to use this stuff not them. Figure out things that you need, want...you can get an easy list off the net or any bridal magazine to help you along. Find out if you need an appointment, some places require a credit card...I guess it is in case ya break the scanner. After working longer than I'd like to discuss in dept stores, the best time to go is in the evening on a weekday. The stores are not crowded, and it will be easier to get an associate who can give you undivided attention, also make sure there are no big sales going on in the store that will attract crowds of people.
