Girls, I have been coming to this board since about this time last year and I feel as though I know some of you. I have truly enjoyed your comments. Many times my co-workers have wanted to know what I was over here laughing about. Two of my favorites are Andrea's Gone With the Wind ideas and of course, the ever popular buttcream. Anyway, I think the board has changed a little too much for me and I've decided to give it up. I just wanted some of the old timers to know that I'll miss you!!!!! Alas, Jen, I have no gift to give. You can just imagine me standing on the steps of Tara in my big beautiful gown, waving and waving at you with a mint julep my hand while Ashley and Rhett await, tied to my big four-poster bed upstairs...
Do check in from time to time - I wish you would have elaborated on the changes to the board - I think you are probably right, but it's hard to quantify exactly what's different. Maybe it's time I moved on, too...

Well, heck, Ron, how can you toss a line like that out and expect us to let it be? What on earth are you talking about?
You know, I have a theory about the changing "feeling" of the board. Although I really like the new format which lets me search by most recent posts (I usually just go to "last day"), I think it means than a lot of topics which are more mainstream disappear quickly from people's radar, as it were, and the more inflammatory threads (where many people post in a given day - or hour!) are the ones which tend to remain visible.
I had to go back to the big list of threads to find this topic, again, for example...

Oh, my point being that those contentious threads about theming, living together, or religion are fun to tussle in, but they tend to overshadow and diminish the quality and civility of the surrounding discourse. You know what I mean?

Andrea - I think you're absolutely right on the reasons the board seems to be changing. I also think that perhaps those of us who have been here a while are settling in to being married, and see a lot of the questions with a new perspective, meaning, they're the same questions from different brides. Which is to be expected. In any event, those questions don't interest me so much any more, and I feel the need to dig in and have some heated discussions. Just to talk with other intelligent women on topics that I feel strongly about. I like the differing opinions. It would perhaps be more suited to a different board, but I've gotten very comfortable here!

When I used to come to this board 6-8 months ago I used to think everyone was so nicey-nice. Everyone said everyone elses ideas were great and it had the attitude that ..it's your wedding and do what you want and whatever you do will be great. Now we see all kinds of input and real feelings on the board. I had to leave when I didn't feel sincerity here before because I didn't really think I was getting help or honest advise. Now that I'm back I find it refreshing that when I ask a question I get 'real' answers and quite a variety too! What's wrong with a little disagreement now and then? I love the honesty! OH...they have put away some stuff in the archives recently so the board is not that long to scroll down in now if you don't want to search by 'last day'.

I agree with Suz, those of us that have been here for a while may be looking in a different direction. The color of dresses and which flowers to have are absolutely vital subjects when you are planning one of the most important days of your life. Afterward, we certainly enjoy giving advice on these topics resulting from our experiences but don't necessarily wish to have our lives governed by them.
There are those who have abandonded the board after the wedding day but I do feel at home here and I wouldn't trade the advice and suggestions that were offered when I was planning my own big day for anything.
Certainly things do get a bit more heated than they used to and perhaps that is just because some of us feel that comfortable to give our honest thoughts and opinions.
I enjoy the discussions and am not ready to walk away.
