When you're getting married and you call the ceremony the Jones-Smith Wedding. Which last name refers to the bride and which to the groom.

Thanks!!

Suznyc - I was actually thinking about addressing the question specifically to you since you've already done all this. No need to though, you came to my rescue anyway. You're great!

ok---here's another! Does it go
hand, wedding band, engagement ring
OR
hand, engagement ring, wedding band?

( I know I could find this out somewhere else...but you are here!)

The engagement ring locks in the wedding ring. The wedding band goes on first, then the engagement ring. This is why you should put the engagement ring on your right hand temporarily before the ceremony. (Although I doubt that it's a problem if you switch them afterward!)

Incidentally, the doctor who took my blood yesterday (for the test required for a marriage license) had her rings on with the wedding band on second. I looked at it the whole time.

At least somebody thinks so! :-)

Glad I could help. And Amy has answered your other question, so I hope you're all set! (for the time being, anyway)

Oops - I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize Carol posted the other question.

Duh.

AmyC - this might be personal, but where did you go to get your blood test? (I'm only asking because we're both in Boston) I called my doctor and they said they didn't do them (!) and whoever answered the phone couldn't really give me a solid answer on where to go. Maybe because it was 4:30 on a Friday???? :)

Torif, no problem. I'm under Harvard-Pilgrim PPO insurance, which means I can go to anybody in their book without a referral. (A little more flexible than their HMO plan.) So I called an office in Brookline, affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess. They are at 1180 Beacon Street, right by the Holiday Inn. (Outbound on the C-line, I think it's 2 stops before Coolidge Corner.) 617-734-2433. Their suite is on the 8th floor; I think the name on the door was Pastor. (Bruce Pastor is the senior doctor in the practice, I think.) They take you with no appointment necessary. The lab is open 8:30 - 4:30, except for an hour at lunch. (I think it was noon-1:00, but I'm not absolutely sure. I waited until 1:40 to start over there.)

You just show up at the office, tell them that you're there for the pre-marital blood test and that you need to fill out their "new patient" form. Bring your insurance card if you've got one. You can just list your primary care physician on the form you fill out.

The procedure takes no time at all, and they mail you the results. Once you have those in hand, you can apply for your license.

Are you certain that you need to go through all of this for a wedding in Connecticut, though? I don't know the state requirements, but there's a chance that CT doesn't require the blood test. Also, you should first make sure that, if it IS required, they will honor a test done in Massachusetts. Joe had his done in New Hampshire, but he had to pick up a MA form for the NH doctor to fill out, or else it wouldn't meet the requirements for the MA license.

Not to make your life any more complicated, but it's worth checking!

I've heard the wedding ring goes first because it is closest to you & your heart.
