Ok, We've hired harpists to play at our ceremony. (They will play me down the isle to The first time ever I saw your face- what do you think?) What I need some help with is... I've asked my cousin (female) to sing at our wedding, I want to find a song that she could sing and use the harpists as backup. (I don't want to spend any more money to have an organist!) Does anyone know any popular songs that are often done on the harp and that have good words to be used in a wedding???? Is anyone out there having harpists at their ceremony? Please help!!!!!!!!!!

I would think that if your harpist is any good, she could tailor almost any song to fit with harp music. I hired 2 flutes and a cello to play "Lord of the Dance" which is usually done with violins, bagpipes and other wacky irish instruments. My trio told me to get them the sheet music, which I did on www.sheetmusic.com. and they would learn it (for $50 xtra). If you really want a specific song sung in your ceremony, find out if there is music for it and show it to your harpist. Good luck.

The best place to start might be the harpists themselves. Did they give you a demo tape? Or will they meet with you to choose music? Whatever song you pick, it needs to be one that they can play, and it seems that the direct way to discover some options is to find out what music they already have. If they work at a lot of weddings, they'll probably have a repertoire developed. If they don't have anything that seems right to you, they probably still have catalogs for harp music. I'm a percussionist and I know I have catalogs of music for my instrument. Presumably, catalogs of harp music would have a division for harp with vocal solo, and there might be a song that you'd like. Then they could order the music, learn the song, and you'd be set. Also, you can ask them what is necessary for them to learn a piece. Find out if they can learn something from a recording, or if they can arrange their own harp accompaniment from a piano or organ score. If they don't need to have actual harp music in order to play, you could have more options. Definitely start with the musicians themselves and see what options they can offer you.

B, how did you get the sheet music from that site? After reading your post, which really perked my interests, I went to the url. It asked me for my e-mail address, then said they would let me know when the grand opening was. That's it. Help! Was there something I missed?

Thanks for all your help. I've set up a meeting with my singer, the harpists and my F and I. I'm sure together we can come up with something! Thanks again for all your help!
