Threads : My Star Wars theme wedding

Lissy, Suznyc's right-hand-woman in NYC's premier themed events creative group, has found THE theme for my wedding. Star Wars! I've never seen any of the movies, despite having dated a creep who had hundreds of figurines around his room, starships hanging from the ceiling, a wardrobe of costumes and all three movies on laser disc, letterbox edition. So tell me how to do it up big, from my donut hairdo to whomever the groom and officiant should resemble, etc.

I'm a little sad, though. I'd gotten attached to my Lufthansa theme, with the gift check that AmyC suggested.

Well, you'll HAVE to have a big line of Storm Troopers. Maybe the groomsmen? I guess Darth Vader, as Leia's daddy, would give the bride away. Although she could refer to him as Anakin (his given name) for the day, to de-emphasize his "dark lord" status for the occasion....

The evil emperor has the look of a natural officiant, although Obi Wan might be the more benevolent-looking candidate. His brown robes from the desert planet of Tatoine would be fine in that role. But then we've got Yoda, too, in case your officiant is rather short. ("Love her, you do? Happy you'll be.") Yeah, your officiant could deliver the whole ceremony Yoda-style.

The groom would dress as Han Solo, with the open-collared, rumpled white shirt, brown pants, and thick belt/holster slung around his hips. The best man would have to be dressed as Luke Skywalker, and could choose between his all-white duds from the first movie and his all-black Jedi Knight outfit. The orange flight suit is also recognizable....

Your ring bearer will be delighted to be the small robot, R2-D2, emitting beeps and whistles all the way down the aisle. C3PO would need to have a role, too, but I can't quite visualize a flowergirl painted gold, walking jerkily down the aisle and saying things like, "I say! Master Luke!"

All right, you asked for it. I'm much better at responding once someone else has proposed something than at coming up with a whole scenario myself. But this was a nice break from the formatting I've been doing!

I agree that R2-D2 would have to be the ring bearer. That is a MUST!
Soooo Funny!!

A screen printed Star Wars T-shirt with a galaxy backdrop or Star Wars air freshener would serve as a lovely favor.

Naomi, Don't forget to wear the Gold Bikini on your wedding night to put him in the mood!
Worn by Princess Lea when she's captured by Jaba the Hut.

Hmmm, the cake could be in the shape of the Death Star (is that what that thing is called?). Certainly the reception could be decorated like that bar where all those weird creatures were hanging out.

And of course, you should wear your hair like Princess Leia. A bagel on either side of your head.

Oh duh. I just read Lissy's original post about Star Wars themes.

So much for my Princess Leia suggestion.

I forgot the Ewoks! Surely you could make some sort of Ewok forest out of tulle.....

We could invite Ronald Reagan for another twist on the theme ...

I don't know, Naomi. My brother used to tell me that my humor was too cerebral, and I think your addition to the Star Wars theme might fall into that category!

But it got a laugh from me. (Especially at this time of year. It blew my mind a bit to hear G.W. Bush and McCain arguing a few weeks ago over who was more like Ronald Reagan. It really made me feel alienated from whatever it is to be "American," because it never occurred to me that politicians would rush to associate themselves with him. But maybe that's because I moved to Massachusetts!)

I do hope people know that we're being silly here on the Star Wars theme thread. As in, taking a goofy idea (Star Wars wedding theme) and running with it?

Although I guess there might have been tasteful Star Wars theme weddings over the years, so maybe I'm not justified in calling it a goofy idea.....!
