Threads : Wedding ideas we hate [NOT FOR THE EASILY OFFENDED]

Things that rub me the wrong way(wedding wise)
- puffy dresses
-butt bows (not to be confused with buttcream)
-people who think that Aunt Sally with the $1200 camera, that she only uses at christmas and special occassions would be a wonderful choice for a photographer.
-snobs
-greedy, self-centered bridezillas
-MIL's who live up to their stereo type
-games played at the reception

A few already said:
-long ceremonies
-wedding parties to big to handle
-rice/butterflies/doves/balloons-don't mind arches, have seen some tastfully done
-favours/centrepieces that look like they were bought from a truck stop gift store.
-fighting(physical-fists)people fighting over bouquet
-smashing cake in each other's faces
-people trying to imitate Charles and Diana, unless your royalty, skip it
-people who spend EXTREME amounts on their wedding thinking it will make their wedding that much better. Nope, sorry, just means you spent more money

Don't mind:
-SOME themes
-tastefully done fake flowers
-matches& napkins with names and date on them/glasses, favours that last longer, I don't like
-bubbles
-practical jokes(in good taste)at the reception or any time after the ceremony

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'll come up with some more. :-)

I still can't find that URL. It was on geocities somewhere, and it was a handfasting. One part I liked was that they had an incubator with chickens hatching for the kids to watch. I remember sitting for hours watching that when I was little. I guess that the kids would have to be well-mannered and patient for it to work out. Way too many variables - I don't recommend it to anyone. All I can think of is what could happen if my sister did this at her Chinese reception ... they might end up in the soup. (Sorry, that's not PC!!! I don't mean any disrespect to any culture, cuisine or anyone!)

LOL! But this is an un-pc thread, IMO, so anything goes. If we can't speak freely in this thread, where can we?

Here's stuff that I personally don't care for at weddings:
-personalized wedding napkins, matchbooks etc.
-long (religious)wedding ceremonies
-dresses with lace
-dresses with trains
-dresses with roses/rose-ettes
-long veils
-releasing/using animals (doves, butterflies)
-themes
-balloons
-red dresses
-huge wedding parties
-drunk boring mc's
-bad dj's
-fake flowers
-people who worry about "proper wedding etiquette"

Alright - here's a laundry list of wedding related things/acts/ideas I LOATHE (in no particular order)

- Over the top themes (corporate, camoflauge :-), etc. )
- Releasing live creatures
- embossed napkins, matches, etc.
- Dopey favors that no one is ever going to keep -
i.e., anything with the B&G's name on it that you can't eat or plant in your yard.
- People who don't understand that ettiquette is simply good manners
- People who don't understand the definition of ettiquette and get it confused with wedding traditions.
- People who don't understand that in order to to break the rules you must first understand them.
- Cake smashing
- miniature bride & grooms in the wedding
- anything with precious moments on it
- cakes that take an architect to design them and include stairways, fountains and really cheesy cake toppers
- white limos
- balloons
- Wedding DJ's with props
- cash bar

I'm sure I can come up with more!

Speaking of miniature bride & groom, who came up with this for recent use? Not Martha Stewart, I don't think. A guy at work thought I said *midget* bride and groom, and he wanted to know how my sister had persuaded midgets to be in her wedding party as caricatures! I thought having normal kids in the role was bad enough.

Add to my laundry list:
- dj's (there are so _few_ good ones)
- dj's who make people line dance
- balloon releases
- drunk wedding parties at the reception
- drunk priests (at the ceremony, yes I've seen this - only once, thank god)
- bride & groom who waffle on wedding dates & locations when they're doing a rush job
- too many videographers
- etiquette for its own sake
- ball & chain being bolted to groom's ankle
- matching attendants
- chewing gum during ceremony
- limousines
- assumption that bride will take groom's last name, and that he won't change a bit
- growing idea that an invitation is a request for a gift
- invite/es who don't RSVP
- assumption that cake/favors/centerpieces/attendants/etc are necessary elements of a wedding
- weddings as fundraisers

MY TURN!!!!

Things that really bug me...

- Brides who get pissed off at the BM's for not having her life revolve around the bride's wedding.
- People who have weddings on holidays and wonder why I wasn't able to attend. (Valentine's, New Year's etc)
- Ceremonies with a mass
- Having guests pay for anything
- Brides who want "unique" favor ideas. (Get real, they've all been done!)
- Incorporating "traditions" that have nothing to do with the bride or groom's heritage, only because they saw it on TV and it is the "in" thing.
- Brides who swear I'll wear the BM dress again. (I must have 4 in a closet with matching shoes and bags, only worn once)
- Party poopers at receptions. (Went to a wedding where NOBODY danced)
- Brides who use outdated etquitte. (Like the one on here who was upset because a guest sent her and her fiance $100 and said it wouldn't cover the cost of dinner at the reception)
- Anyone wanting to charge me an arm, leg, and left butt cheek for a wedding video. (Hint: If ya wouldn't charge so much, maybe I'd consider it)

Things I fear...

- Cash registers at the end of a buffet line
- More "Bow Wow Weddings" on Animal Planet
- An invitation that reads "Three beer minimum, leave your gift at the door!"

Okay my turn.
Anything Disney, Mickey, Minnie, Cinderella, Snow White, Dopey, Sneezy, Wheezy, they all make me queasy.
Big poufy veils behind poeple's heads.
Bright pink BM dresses.
One attendant (just had to say that because I am having a big wedding party.( : - I have a huge family)
Long sleaves in summer, dark colors and velvet in summer, pastels in winter.
Macrarena, chicken dance, hokey pokey.
People clicking their glasses for kisses.
Wildly colored vests for the tuxes.
Money dance

I know I'll think of more.
