What is a sufficient date to RSVP for a May 27th wedding? I'm trying to order the invites and am stuck as to what date to put. I'm sure it's been a topic here before...but I can't find it anywhere. Is it customary to have people rsvp 1 month prior, 3 weeks prior, or what? Please don't tell me it depends! ;-) Does anyone know what is customary..or what are YOU doing? Help!

My wedding is May 20th and I am putting RSVP for April 30th. I think 3 weeks is a sufficient amount of time for myself since I don't need a final headcount until 3 days prior to my wedding. Hope this helps!

I think 3 weeks is a good amount of time! less or more timeif needed would be ok also.... but I wouldn't go over 4 weeks thats asking a little much of some guests!

I went with three weeks before the wedding date. It gives me time to follow up on any response cards I don't receive, so I can make the necessary calls during that extra week. Also, I can have the place cards done (actually, I'm doing them as the responses come in--42 done now!) and the seating chart organized ahead of time. And I'll have the final count in plenty of time for the caterer. I just didn't want to have all of these things happening within 2 weeks of the wedding, so I took the advice of others on this board when I posted this same question back in December. It's likely that you'll get most of the responses well before the deadline, anyway. (We sent our invitations out on Valentine's Day and got our first 3 responses on the 16th! They've been coming at least 2 a day ever since.)

Hi Connie! Yes, I am out of that "self-pity" phase!! lol I just really got down on everything...you know that emotional roller coaster! We have less than 3 months left! Did you mail out your invites yet? We are getting them out next week.

My wedding coordinator said that 2 weeks is good because it allows the guests to take into account any last minute things that "come up" but to do it for 3 weeks because of all those procrastinators!!!

Now that it is all said and done, I wish I had eliminated the date and put "The courtesy of a prompt reply is appreciated." I have determined that very few people actually pay attention to the date (ours was a full month before the wedding and we were still chasing people down the week of the wedding.) Eliminating the date would have allowed us to save face when sending to people we forgot or those that we decided we really did have room for.
