I have seen a rose placed on the altar in a vase and a note made in the program that the flower was to symbolize or represent the deceased parent. I have also seen this done with a candle.

If the ceremony is outside, you could tie a ribbon around a tree and put a note in the program (explained in above message).

We are putting a vase on the piano to represent all of our lost ones. We are using a single white rose for each deceased witha ribbon tied around each in a vase. There will also be a poem in the program and an explanation of what the roses are for.....Hope this helps.

We're going to have a picture of the deceased loved ones at our reception on an easel and will have someone read a poem at the wedding. In addition, we will light a candle for them during the ceremony after the poem is read.

I lost both of my mother's parents this year. We'll be playing a song (Ave Maria), in thier memory during the ceremony. This song was played at both of thier funerals. We will also include a poem in the program.

I never really thought about this till now when reading this post, My mother father died a few years ago and I think I would like to honor and remember him in some way! I think I like the rose idea best! hm... or maybe the candle one... I have a question though, wich poems are you useing? or where could I find one? Hey now that I think of it my fiance just lost his grandma I think I'll run this idea past him also!

I found my poem on www.ultimateweddings.com. It's sooo beautiful that it made me cry when I read it.

www.bluemountain.com was mentioned in another thread. It has a lot of different poems. Bring a box of tissues though. Quite a few very touching poems there. I used about half a box. :-)

Lovebug, Here's something I saw from Prose and poetry at ultimatewedding.com In memory of loved ones past……… submitted by Lori Liebetrau Although death has separated us physically, faith and love have bound us eternally. Though we cannot see you, we know you are here. Though we cannot touch you, we feel the warmth of your smile, as we begin a new chapter in our lives. Today we pause to reflect upon those who have shaped our character, molded our spirits and touched our hearts. May the lighting of this candle be a reminder of the memories we have shared, a representation of the everlasting impact you have made upon our lives. You could also print an announcement in the program. Perhaps something along the lines of: "The flowers on the altar have been placed in loving memory of Helen Asbury, mother of the bride." Or "The bride and groom will light candles to honor the memory of Thomas Cantnor and Evelyn Carson, grandfather of the bride and mother of the groom."
